President issued special circular banning import of garments, reveals Dayasiri

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued a special circular banning the import of garments, State Minister of Batik and Handloom Textiles Dayasiri Jayasekara revealed. He made this observation speaking to reporters after attending an exhibition in Colombo yesterday (28).

In the limitation of many imports and exports in the country, an environment in which the country’s indigenous national resources are preserved and have goods produced by our own should be adapted in light of overcoming the present crisis, the Minister emphasised.

At this distinction, the local manufacture of garments should be empowered, he added.

“Accordingly, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued a special circular banning all imports of garments. Today we have created the conditions by which a large number of new garment factories would be established locally,” Jayasekara said.
