Arundika Fernando resigns ; son remanded

State minister – Arundika Fernando has announced his resignation from the post of State Minister after his son was found among to be the suspects who had attacked a group of medical students of the University of Kelaniya.

The state minister has said he will resign until a thorough investigation is carried out.

The group was remanded till Feb. 07 after being produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court today (03).

Fernando’s son, 23-year-old Avinda Randila Jehan Fernando, last night surrendered to the Ragama police through a lawyer, and was subsequently taken into custody.
