COVID-19: ‘No need to panic, but follow health guidelines’
COLOMBO: The government has no plans for another lockdown or imposing travel restrictions despite a hike in the COVID-19 cases, said State Minister for Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana.
He said the government has no plans to obstruct daily activities of the people.
“We advice people not to panic about the surge in COVID-19 cases but follow health guidelines issued by authorities and to take the booster dose,” the State Minister stated speaking to the media in Anuradhapura.
He said that the government had taken steps to provide the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose and that there was no need to be afraid to obtain the vaccine.
The State Minister said some people were reluctant to take the booster dose due to false stories and misconceptions and added that the booster dose is given to further strengthen the immunity of the people against the virus.
The minister said during the last few days people obtaining the booster dose had increased rapidly.
The Epidemiology Unit reports that 408,898 people in the country have received COVID-19 booster doses in the last five days.
