Apple announces four 5G-enabled versions of iPhone 12

Apple has announced four 5G-enabled versions of its new iPhone 12 ranging in price from almost $700 to roughly $1,100, according to The Associated Press.

5G is supposed to mean much faster speeds, making it quicker to download movies or games, for instance. But finding those speeds can be a challenge.

“Today is the beginning of a new era for iPhone,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said during a streamed launch event from the company’s headquarters in California.

According to AFP, he said 5G “will bring a new level of performance for downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, more responsive gaming, real time interactivity and so much more.”

The new models include the redesigned iPhone 12 — successor to the top-selling iPhone 11 launched last year — with a display of 6.1 inches at a starting price of $799, available October 23.

A smaller iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4 inch display will start at $699 and will be in stores Nov. 13.
