Chandrasekaran appointed chairman of Air India

Tata group appointed Natarajan Chandrasekaran as the chairman of Air India, said two people with direct knowledge of the matter, as the conglomerate continued steps to bolster the loss-making airline’s management just months after taking control from the government.

Chandrasekaran’s appointment was approved in a board meeting of Air India, one of the two people said, requesting anonymity.

The home-grown airline was bought back by the Tatas in a $2.4 billion equity and debt deal in October last year following 69 years of state ownership.
