Colombo hit by trade unions’ strike

COLOMBO: The city of Colombo is said to be completely paralyzed as many industries ranging from plantations, agriculture, power, fisheries, banking, health, ports, economic centers, teachers, and principals are among those that have joined the island-wide strike.

According to reports, approximately 1,000 trade unions have pledged support for the strike action.

Train services were disrupted as the employees from several railway trade unions have not reported to work, says the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways.

A host of trade unions representing all state, semi-government and private sectors resorted to an island-wide strike for 24 hours today (April 28), to express their dissatisfaction towards the government.
