New envoys Chandraprema, Mohan Peiris call on PM Rajapaksa

Permanent Representative-designate of Sri Lanka to the UN mission in Geneva C. A. Chandraprema paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He was among several Sri Lanka envoys to foreign countries who were received by the prime minister on Saturday.

Permanent Representative-designate of Sri Lanka to the UN in New York Mohan Peiris and
Ambassador-designate to China Dr. Palitha Kohona were among those diplomats.

The Parliament High Posts Committee recently approved the appointment of eight new diplomats to represent Sri Lanka, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador-Designate to Saudi Arabia Hilmy Careem said he intends to promote two-way trade, tourism, and export of skilled workforce to the Kingdom once he assumes office in Riyadh.

The 70-year-old former mayor of Matale was named as Sri Lanka’s new ambassador to Saudi Arabia recently, Saudi daily Arab News reported.

He will succeed former Ambassador Azmi Thassim who returned to the island nation earlier this year after completing his tenure.
