Parliament to meet on Tuesday amid battle against virus
Parliament will convene on Tuesday amid islandwide scare over the COVID-19 disease.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary Ranjith Badduma Bandara said all MPS should be subjected to PCR tests given the current situation in Sri Lanka with regard to the pandemic.
He said the government should postpone the debate on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution till the pandemic situation is controlled.
The Speaker is expected to announce the decision of the Supreme Court on the 20th Amendment bill to Parliament on Tuesday.
The debate over the controversial bill is scheduled to begin on Wednesday,
Parliament’s Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) have decided to temporarily suspend the committee meetings, according to media reports.
The COPE and COPA meetings, which were earlier slated to be held from Tuesday to Oct. 23, have been suspended.
