Indian diplomat, Jaffna commander at IPKF Memorial

COLOMBO: The Consulate General of India celebrated 75 years of India’s Independence with Consul General Raakesh Natraj and Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General WMGCSB Wijayasundara RSP USP paying respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly by laying a wreath.

Following this, Consul General hoisted the Indian flag at a function at the Consulate and read out the message of the President of India.

Over 90 people, including Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin and friends of India participated in the event.

The Consulate also organized a Cultural program and reception marking the 76th Independence Day at Jaffna Culture Center, built with Grant Assistance of the Government of India.

A packed hall was treated to Nadaswaram performance by Maestro Banu and group, a Bharatnatyam performance by Natya KalaKendra institute Barathanatiyam group and folk dance performance by Kumara Narththanaalayam group.

Over 400 invitees including Hon’ble Governor, Northern Province, Chairman, Northern Provincial Council, Members of Parliament, Mayor of Jaffna and senior Government officials, former NPC Ministers and Members, religious leaders, academics as well as Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin participated in the event.
