Indian High Commissioner visits Thirukoneswaram temple

COLOMBO: Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay offered morning Pujai at the sacred and historical Thirukoneswaram temple in Trincomalee during ongoing Navratri season and on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

He prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the people of India and Sri Lanka.

The High Commissioner was briefed on the history of the serene coastal temple devoted to Lord Shiva.

It is one of the two Sri Lankan temples praised by the 6th century Indian poet-saint Sambandhar in his Shaivite work Tevarams.

The other temple is Thiruketheeshwaram in Mannar, where restoration work was supported by India.
