Wigneswaran backs ManoG’s call to set up ‘Tamil caucus’

COLOMBO: Opposition MP Mano Ganesan’s call for setting up a “Tamil caucus” in Sri Lanka parliament is reportedly gaining more support.

Jaffna MP and former Northern Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran has expressed support for the proposal in an email, according to Mano Ganesan.

Parties such as TELO, DPLF, TMK have so far officially backed the plan in addition to TPA constituents WNF, UPF and DPF,

In a bid to ensure Sri Lanka’s main political parties do not “take numerical minorities for granted” anymore, Mano Ganesan recently mooted setting up a “Tamil caucus.”

The “caucus”, he said, would allow Tamil MPs to express the “collective desire” of the island’s Tamil speaking peoples.
