Unity needed to defeat COVID-19, says President

COLOMBO: “Maintaining self-discipline and following health guidelines could lead us to defeat COVID-19,” says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

“We can’t let COVID-19 take over the livelihood of our people. Let us unite for the betterment of our country, overcoming all political ideologies and differences,” the president said in a Twitter post.

“Everyone including President, ministers, health staff and people must understand the status of economy of the people who lives on daily wages and businesses,” he said.

“We cannot afford to close down the country anticipating a cure for COVID-19 would be discovered,” he added.

“From the day we identified the first Sri Lankan Coronavirus-infected person in March 2020, we as a government have taken various measures for the safety of the citizens,” he pointed out.
