Parliamentary electoral reforms: Mano Ganesan highlights concern
COLOMBO: The Prime Minister convened a meeting of party leaders to discuss parliamentary electoral reforms at the parliamentary complex on Wednesday.
Mano Ganesan, Rishad Badurdeen, Gajendrakumar, CWC’s Ramesh, and state minister Arvind Kumar rejected any move to change the current parliamentary electoral system.
They voiced concerns that any changes would reduce representation for the Tamil Muslim population.
Mano Ganesan said that before reforming the parliamentary election system, they should conduct PC elections under the PR system as agreed in the report of the concluded select committee on electoral reforms.
MPs Dulles Alahaperuma, Gammanpila, Tissa Vitharana, and Rathana Hamaduru opposed, expressing that the government seems to have a hidden agenda.
The Prime Minister concluded the meeting by saying that to meet after two weeks.
