International Women’s Day celebration at Jaffna library
A momentous celebration in honor of International Women’s Day took place in the Public Library, Jaffna, with distinguished guests, including the Consul General Shri.
Sai Murali, Municipal Commissioner of Jaffna Krishnendran, Chief Librarian, and women from Jaffna participating in the event.
The event marked a significant milestone in recognizing the achievements and contributions of women, not only locally but also globally.
A special book exhibition showcasing the remarkable achievements of Indian women highlighted the event, underscoring their invaluable impact across various fields and inspiring future generations.
In his address, the Consul General emphasized the significance of this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Inspire Inclusion, a cornerstone of all projects undertaken by the Government of India and the Consulate.
He reiterated women’s inherent capabilities, stressing the imperative of providing them with equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.
In a demonstration of commitment to women’s empowerment, the Consulate, in collaboration with the Gender Equality and Equity Centre at the University of Jaffna, announced support for a program benefiting widows in Mullaitivu.
This initiative aims to provide resources and assistance to empowering widows, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to society.
Furthermore, as part of the Women’s Day celebrations, the Consulate organizes a program in colleges across the Northern Province.
Dr. Saranya Jayakumar, a renowned psychologist from India, has been invited to share her insights and expertise, fostering dialogue and awareness on issues pertinent to women’s well-being and mental health.
