Jaffna MP welcomes steps on potato import ban
COLOMBO: Jaffna MP Angajan Ramanathan has thanked President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for taking steps to ban imports of potatoes.
In a Twitter message, the MP also commented on taking steps for the 5th consecutive year to provide 50 percent subsidy worth 60 million rupees on seed potatoes to promote potato cultivation in Jaffna.
President Rajapaksa has maintained that food security is essential for Sri Lankan economy.
Successive governments have sought to increase the national food production and launched ambitious cultivation drives.
Angajan Ramanathan also holds the position of deputy chairman of committees in Parliament.
