Financial assistance to Jaffna women entrepreneurs
The Consulate General of India celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India with Consul General Sh. Sai Murali and Brigadier Priyantha Nawarathna (Brigadier General Staff), Sri Lanka Security Forces (Jaffna), paying floral respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly, Jaffna.
Following this, the consul general hoisted the Indian flag at the Consulate function and then rendered the National Anthem for the officials and the Indian community.
The Consul General of India read the Indian President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day.
About 130 people, including Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin, friends of India, and journalists from local media, among others, participated in the event.
The Consul General also participated in an event at the Kayts DS office (1100 hrs), where he provided financial assistance to women entrepreneurs as part of the Women Empowerment initiative.
Consul General handed equipment and raw materials to six women entrepreneurs in a small-scale detergent liquid manufacturing business.
Kayts DS Manchuladevi Satheesan also took part in the event.
The event at the Kayts DS office also featured a tree-planting ceremony by the Consul General.
