Canada’s largest city Toronto ordered into COVID-19 lockdown starting Monday

Canada’s largest city Toronto and much of its suburbs will be placed under lockdown beginning on Monday due to the spread of COVID-19, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced.

“I’ve been clear on this: The situation is extremely serious and further action is required,” Ford said.

“Effective Monday, Nov. 23 at 12:01 am, Toronto and Peel will be moved into lockdown.”

The stricter measures come as Ontario reports 1,418 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, including 393 in Toronto and 400 new cases in Peel Region.

“We have flattened the epidemic curve before and I am confident we can do it again,” Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said, according to The Associated Press.
