Consulate of India, Jaffna, Celebrates Republic Day
The Consulate of India in Jaffna celebrated the 76th Republic Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
The celebrations commenced with Consul General Shri Sai Murali and Major General Y.A.B.M. Yahampath, R.W.P., R.S.P., Security Forces Commander (J), paying respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly, Jaffna.
This was followed by the ceremonial unfurling of the Indian national flag and the reading of the Hon’ble President of India’s Republic Day message at the Consulate. The function was attended by approximately 130 participants, including Consulate officials and their families, Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), and friends of India.
In the evening, the Consulate organized a cultural program and reception at the Jaffna Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre to mark the occasion. The event featured a mesmerizing Kathak dance performance by Indian artist Smt. Ruchi Balooni.
During the Republic Day reception, Consul General Shri Sai Murali reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Northern Province, addressing community concerns, and providing ongoing support to ensure their well-being and development.
Consul General emphasized that Indian efforts are focused on strengthening the relationship as equals and serving as a reliable partner in meeting the needs and aspirations of the people of the Northern Province. He reassured the audience that India would always stand as a steadfast supporter of their rights and welfare.
Highlighting the role of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna as a brother and ally, he urged the people to place their faith in the brotherly relationship between the people of India and the people of Jaffna.
He also underscored the admiration and respect that the people of India have historically held for the intellect and contributions of the people of Jaffna.
The celebration saw a turnout of over 300 guests, including the Governor of Northern Province, Nagalingam Vedanayagam, Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council C.V.K Sivagnanam, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Members of Parliament from NPP, ITAK, and TNPF, as well as senior government officials, political and religious leaders, army and police officers, Indian citizens, and Persons of Indian Origin.
The event concluded with attendees praising the Consulate’s efforts to strengthen cultural and historical ties between India and Sri Lanka.
