MoUs with India: Mano Ganesan highlights importance of tranparency

Senior parliamentarian and leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance, Mano Ganesan, questioned Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath regarding his recent speech on the government’s pacts with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Ganesan requested that the government table all the agreements signed with India in parliament so that the entire country would be informed about them.
He emphasized that while the minister had stated that these agreements were not formal contracts but memoranda of understanding, tabling them would instill confidence in the nation.
Furthermore, Ganesan addressed the minister’s claim that certain opposition parties accused him of betraying the country by making agreements with India.
He clarified that Herath’s party had previously accused them of the same when they attempted to negotiate similar agreements with India.
After Ganesan’s intervention, the minister said he would respond to the request to table the memoranda of understanding within a few days.
