Durgs worth millions of rupees seized in Marawila

COLOMBO: Law enforcement agencies assisted by the Sri Lanka Navy have seized a massive haul of drugs worth hundreds of millions of rupees, Navy Media announced.

The haul consists of 100kg of heroin and 100kg of crystal methamphetamine also known as Ice and was detected during a special operation carried out in the Thodduwa area in Marawila, the Navy said in a report caries by economy next.com.

The announcement said that the Navy “rendered assistance to the Excise Department and other Intelligence agencies” in making the detection.

The drugs were packed in boxes and packages ready for distribution, the Navy said.

“Along with this consignment of drugs 04 suspects in connection to this racket as well as 4 vehicles made available for the delivery of those substances were also taken into custody,” the Navy said.

Drugs in such large quantities are usually brought into Sri Lanka from India and Pakistan by “country boats” for transhipment to other countries in Europe and the West according to various international agencies including the UN.
