Former PM Ranil COVID-19 comments on fight against COVID-19

Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he did not think that the COVID-19 pandemic will come to an end this year.

The United National Party (UNP) leader also said several waves of the virus keep repeating.

“I don’t think COVID-19 will end this year. Several waves keep coming repeatedly, one after the other,” he said in remarks published in The Morning dot lk.

He said some countries have already launched vaccination programs but that Sri Lanka has no such plan as of yet.

“The government earlier said that we will get the vaccine in March.

“India has said they will give only 20 million vaccines to SAARC countries and that is not enough.

“I’m not aware whether we have entered into an agreement with China to get a vaccine. In the meantime, the government has requested $10 million from export businessmen to buy the vaccine.

“We can find that money from the budget without begging from businessmen,” the former prime minister said in The Morning dot lk report.
