Douglas: Tamil community did not benefit from Pottuvil to Polikandy march
COLOMBO: The protest march organized by some Tamil Political Parties from Pottuvil to Polikandy was aimed at getting some selfish political agendas fulfilled, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Douglas Devananda said.
He was speaking at a meeting at the Jaffna Kachcheri for discussing matters pertaining to the Jaffna aquatic resources development activities and damage caused to the fisher folks in North by the Buravi Cyclone.
“The Tamil community was not at all benefited from this fruitless exercise. Those who took part in the walk pretended that they were in a position for clamoring against the Government. That protest campaign was only for gaining an undue political advantage by hoodwinking the public,” he said.
“There is nothing the conveners of the protest march could do for the Tamils and this is not a protest march on behalf of the Tamil community,” he added.
At the meeting, Devananda instructed the Divisional Secretaries and the Fisheries Department officers to submit details of all fishermen who were affected by the Buravi cyclone in the Jaffna District in one week.
