1996 World Cup stars to play in Jaffna
The members of the legendary 1996 cricket World Cup winning team are set to participate in a ceremonial cricket match to mark the 25th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s historic world cup win.
The legends are set to feature in a ceremonial cricket match to be staged in Jaffna, which is tentatively set to take place from 26-28 March, 2021.
The World Cup winning former cricketers will play against a Jaffna cricket team.
The Jaffna team will consist of senior cricketers who have played cricket from Jaffna.
Several 96 cricketers are said to have withdrawn from the Road Safety World Series 2021 to participate in Sri Lanka’s commemoration events.
Sri Lanka cricket legends Muttiah Muralitharan, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Chaminda Vass, Upul Chandana, and Marvan Atapattu are among those who have withdrawn from the Road Safety World Series tournament.
Sri Lanka won the cricket World Cup on 17th of March 1996.
A ceremonial event has been organized on the 17th of March, 2021, to mark 25 years since the legendary and historic victory of the Sri Lanka cricket team.
