COVID-19 vaccination program for frontline staff at Katunayake airport

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has started to vaccinate frontline aviation sector staff against COVID-19 on a voluntary basis, the island’s state-run airport agency said in a report published in Economy Next.

The COVID-19 vaccination program started on Feb. 17 at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and over 1,500 staff from the Airport and Aviations Services, and related agencies had been vaccinated over two days.

“The inoculation drive began with priority being placed on its frontline airport workforce and the vaccine is introduced to all on a voluntary basis,” an AASL spokesperson said.

“Together with other measures, we ensure the health and safety of our passengers, employees, and the communities we serve at BIA.”

The AASL runs Sri Lanka’s international airports in Katunayake, Ratmalana, Jaffna as well as a number of regional airports.
