Death of 9 year old Fathima at Witchcraft ritual center : Mother & female shaman arrested

The Police have arrested the mother of the deceased child and the female shaman who said to have caned her during the alleged ‘treatment process’.

Fathima Rizka, a resident of Kanduboda was taken to a witchcraft ritual centre after she was said to have been possessed by a demonic spirit.

The 9-year-old victim had fainted while being hit with a cane during the alleged ‘treatment process’ where an oil treatment also had taken place.

Later, she was pronounced dead upon admission to the Biyagama hospital.
