Inhabitants in Iranathivu to launch protests against COVID 19 burials
Inhabitants of Iranathivu island are planning a protest tomorrow against the government decision to bury COVID 19 victims in a plot of a land there.
A Christian priest in the island told media a protest is being planned by community tomorrow morning.
Iranathivu has been selected as the venue for COVID 19 burial almost a week after government announced ending mandatory cremation of COVID 19 victims.
Cabinet spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that government will bear the cost of dead body transportation to Iranathivu situated over 350km north of Colombo.
Government’s decision is being critisised over social media questioning the rationale behind their selection.
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem questioned government decision saying they try to prove their false narrative is right by choosing a remote area.
“Banish the bodies to Iranativu! They created the false narrative and wish to prove they were right all along. There is no end to their sadistic pleasure in harassing a hopelessly traumatized community. Pathetic racism prevails!”, Hakeem said.
