Total supply of Indian made vaccines to Sri Lanka currently stands at 1.2m doses
COLOMBO: In response to media queries on the supply of Indian manufactured COVID-19 vaccines to Sri Lanka, the spokesperson of the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka issued a statement.
The spokesperson said that India has made a commitment to collectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, has supplied 64.51 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as at 09 April 2021 to 85 countries.
The supply of these vaccines has taken place bilaterally, as well as through COVAX.
It was further highlighted that India has also supplied vaccines to health workers and peacekeepers globally.
With regard to the supply of vaccines to Sri Lanka, the spokesperson stated that three consignments of AstraZeneca vaccines manufactured in India arrived in Sri Lanka in January, February and March respectively, the last via the COVAX facility.
The total supply of Indian made vaccines to Sri Lanka currently stands at 1.2 million doses.
The spokesperson noted that the first of these consignments played an essential role in the launch of Sri Lanka’s vaccination drive, ahead of the earlier plan.
India’s vaccine manufacturing capacity is currently the largest in the world and is being enhanced to meet the emergency global demand of duly approved COVID-19 vaccines.
Speaking on the calibration of the supply of these vaccines, the spokesperson said that it is in view of several factors such as production and India’s domestic requirement.
Further, it was mentioned that India will continue to be in the forefront of the global fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and will also continue its valuable cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
