Port City Economic Commission Draft Bill ‘is not inconsistent with Constitution’
COLOMBO: Attorney General Dappula de Livera has informed the Presidential Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera that the Port City Economic Commission Draft Bill is not inconsistent with the Constitution.
Earlier, Dr. Jayasundera has written to the Attorney General on the above issue.
“I have to advise you that the provisions of the Bill are not inconsistent with the Constitution. The bill is not subject to any prohibition or restriction imposed by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and may be enacted by parliament,” the AG wrote.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the Bill contradicts the One Country, One Law Concept promoted by the present government.
Premadasa observed that the country and the Port City cannot have two legal systems.
Premadasa made these observations at an event held in Sellakataragama to distribute rice to 700 families, as a part of a program to assist the needy who celebrate the Sinhala-Hindu New Year season during the pandemic
