JVP leader laments ‘tactless handling of spread of COVID-19’
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s health mechanisms utilized to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has been severely compromised, said Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
In several districts, there are more than 100 homeless people who cannot be transported to hospitals, he claimed.
“Many of us are talking about this and letting the authorities know that they can’t find a bed. The government hospital system and the intermediate hospital system are out of beds. As a result, patients are left helpless and unable to do anything at home,” he said.
He also stated that due to the tactless handling of the spread of the virus, the health authorities have become tired.
“On the other hand, there is a lack of even basic facilities when health workers are trying to fulfill their responsibilities to the fullest,” said the MP.
“Protests are even being held in some hospitals in a background where PPE and other infrastructure have not been developed.
“Public Health Inspectors play a vital role in controlling this disease. This means that the health staff is very tired,” he commented.
This situation has arisen because of the neglectful decisions of the President, government and other areas of administration, said the JVP leader,
He accused the government of acting proudly and immaturely in the face of the pandemic.
