Man held in East for propagating extremist ideologies

COLOMBO; A 38-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly propagating the extremist ideologies of Easter Sunday Terror Attacks suicide bomber Zahran Hashim in Muttur in 2018, Daily News reported.

He was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) at Iqbal Road in the Muttur area last Thursday, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said in the media report..

“Reportedly, the suspect had conducted classes on the instructions of Zahran Hashim on extremist ideologies for school leavers who sat for the GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations in 2018,” he said.

The suspect will be detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for further interrogations.

Meanwhile, another two suspects who were trained under Zahran Hashim were taken into custody from Kegalle and Polonnaruwa Prisons on the orders of the respective Magistrate’s Courts in terms of provisions of the PTA over their links to extremist activities.They had been remanded over various offences after the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks.
