Henchmen of Moratuwa mayor gather outside court premises

A group of henchmen of – Samanlal Fernando had gathered outside the Moratuwa Magistrate Court when the Mayor was produced before court today (28).

Footage making rounds on social media show the police looking on as COVID-19 regulations were being blatantly flouted in this manner, despite the ongoing islandwide travel restrictions.

The mayor, who faces charges of obstructing the duties of health officials at a vaccination point, was arrested after surrendering to the Mt. Lavinia police.

Samanlal Fernando also made headlines a few weeks ago, after distributing notes containing his official seal, among supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). The notes had urged the bearer to be given prominence during the vaccination programme.
