Cricketers shocked by demise of Dean Jones, 59

Tributes are pouring in for cricketer Dean Jones, former Australia batsman, who has died at the age of 59.

Jones, regarded as one of the finest batsmen of his generation, played 52 Tests and 164 one-day internationals for Australia in an international career that spanned 10 years between 1984 and 1994, Reuters reported.

Chennai Super Kings said in a Twitter message: “Absolutely devastated to hear about the demise of Dean Jones. A colossal loss to the cricketing community.”

The IPL cricket team added that Jones’ “connection to Chepauk will always be cherished. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”

Cricketer Irfan Pathan said on Twitter:

“I’m deeply shocked and saddened by the demise of our fellow commentator #DeanJones He was fine in the morning. I had video call with his son two days back. Everything was fine. Everything was normal. I can’t believe this #RIP.”
