Loan facilities for Sri Lanka green projects discussed with European Investment Bank
COLOMBO: Sri Lankan delegates to the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg have discussed loan facilities for green projects with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Foreign Ministry said.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels had organized a virtual meeting between EIB officials and the Sri Lankan delegates last Wednesday, Economy Next reported.
“EIB officials while explaining the funding modalities under the Green Concept program of the Bank, and indicated their readiness to consider project proposals from Sri Lanka for possible funding by EIB investment loans,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“The EIB also offered to provide technical expertise and assistance to Sri Lanka in the sphere of investment on green bonds,” it added.
A Foreign Ministry statement said the meeting had focused on projects that are in the pipeline for EIB funding and lending in green projects and sustainable development in ocean initiatives, investment on green bonds, SME development and more.
The meeting was joined by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU Grace Asirwatham, EIB officials, Sri Lanka Central Bank officials, Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Sanjaya Mohottala, and officials from the Foreign Ministry.
