232,526 jabs: Sri Lanka vaccinations set single-day record
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka vaccinated 232,526 people on Monday (12), the highest single-day inoculations in the country so far against COVID-19, official data cited by Economy Next showed.
As per the Health Ministry’s epidemiology unit, 4,725 received the first dose of the Pfizer-BionTech vaccine on Monday, bringing total Pfizer jabs in Sri Lanka to 23,073.
The first dose of the Russian made Sputnik V was administered to 13,357 Monday, bringing total Sputnik V first doses to 138,801, while 14,464 have already received their second dose.
The first and second doses of the Chinese made Sinopharm vaccine was given to 173,988 and 13,357 Monday. A total of 3,128,403 people have received the first dose so far while 1,104,496 have received the second dose.
With no new AstraZeneca arriving in the island till July 19, only 180 Sri Lankans received the second dose of that vaccine Monday. Out of a total 925,242 first dose recipients, only 385,849 have had the second jab so far.
Sri Lanka’s vaccine rollout is continuing in 243 vaccination centers in 20 districts around the island, according to the Health Ministry.
