Death of 16-year-old girl at MP Rishad’s house: Postmortem reveals girl sexually exploited
The postmortem into the death of a teenager who was employed at Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen’s residence in Colombo has revealed that there were signs of chronic virginal penetration.
Police spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana said the 16-year-old girl who was employed as a domestic worker at the MP’s private residence in Colombo had died due to severe burn injuries.
She was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital early July and had died four days ago after being treated for nearly 12 -days.
SDIG Ajith Rohana said the postmortem report confirming sexual exploitation of the victim will be produced in the courts today.
He further said the In-laws of MP Bathiudeen recorded statements before the Borella Police yesterday.
The man who had escorted the girl from Diyagama to MP Bathiudeen’s house for employment has been summoned before the Borella Police to record a statement today.
The Borella Police and the Children and Women Bureau of the Sri Lanka Police are conducting further investigations into the death.
Meanwhile, the body of the victim was brought to her residence in Diyagama yesterday.
Investigations have revealed that the girl was employed as a domestic worker at MP Bathiudeen’s residence at the age of 15.
Residents of the area also staged a protest compelling the authorities to hold a formal investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl.
The protest organized by the Kandurata Janatha Peramuna in front of the clock tower in Hatton yesterday was led by the Nuwara Eliya District Jathika Samagi Balawegaya Parliamentarian and leader of the Kandurata Janatha Peramuna V.Radha Krishnan.
According to media reports, the protestors, including Parliamentarian Radha Krishnan, pointed out that in view of the postmortem report the authorities should hold a formal inquiry and arrest the individuals who raped the girl.
He further stressed that it was the responsibility of the authorities to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents and to provide protection to the hundreds of estate sector children employed in Colombo and several other areas.

The 16 year old girl J.Ishalini had found employment in the former minister’s residence at Bauddhaloka Mawatha Colombo through an individual from Diagama. She had received serious burn injuries on July 03 and sucumbed to her injuries on July 15 at the hospital.
However, the JMO of the Borella hospital who performed the postmortem examination had reported that she had been raped.
The protestors including Parliamentarian Radha Krishnan pointed out that in view of the postmortem report the authorities should hold a formal inquiry and arrest the individuals who raped the girl.
