India sends 280 tons of oxygen to Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: India has dispatched a Navy vessel INS Shakthi with 100 tonnes of medical oxygen from Vishakapatnam which will reach Sri Lanka on Aug. 22, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said.
A total of 280 tonnes of medical oxygen from several Indian ports are being sent to Sri Lanka
The oxygen delivery was in response to a request from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Sri Lanka Navy vessel Shakthi had also departed Chennai with 40 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen.
“It was a rare instance wherein two Shakti vessels commenced their journey from two different ports in India to the same destination almost at the same time for a common purpose,” the High Commission said.
In addition, another 140 tons of LMO from Haldia and Chennai ports are also expected to reach Colombo during the coming week.
