COVID-19 battle success: Indian Army impressed with Sri Lanka armed forces’ role

COLOMBO: Lt. Gen A.K. Hooda, director general of Medical Services (Indian Army), has praised the success achieved by Sri Lanka armed forces in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka.

His remarks came at a webinar organized recently for the Indian Army and Sri Lanka Army Medical Corp to expand cooperation between the two establishments.

The aim was to discuss standard operating procedures, best practices and issues concerning Covid-19 management by both the armies, with special focus on “force protection and preservation measures.”

The webinar was inaugurated by the director general.

He also said “it is essential that countries, especially in neighborhood join hands. to effectively deal with and contain the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The event was attended by Maj. Gen. (Dr.) S. H. Munasinghe, secretary of Health.

The secretary in his address emphasized the importance of such platforms to share best practices and knowledge so as to tackle this global pandemic effectively.

The secretary said the “spread of pandemic has been kept under check in Sri Lanka owing to foresight and proactive steps initiated by the Government under the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.”
