‘Manike Mage Hithe’ gets over 50 million hits (Video)
COLOMBO: The melodious song ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ sung by young artist Yohani De Silva has been viewed by over 50 million users on YouTube by yesterday. The song “Manike Mage Hithe” had 52,417,635 views.
This is the first time a Sri Lankan song has received such a massive response on YouTube, and the popularity of her songs in India has led to her reaching a vast audience.
The Sinhala song, which initially featured Sri Lankan female singer-rapper Yohani and Satheeshan and was produced by Chamath Sangeeth in July 2020, has also become a new phenomenon in India, Bangladesh, Middle East and Maldives because of its joyful tune and Sinhala rap.
The song’s success on streaming platforms and social media prompted its Tamil and Malayalam versions to be released last month. It is also becoming popular in Africa.
After receiving widespread praise online, the song was recently redone in English and Hindi.
Amitabh Bachchan, a Bollywood legend, expressed his admiration for the song. The Megastar wrote that he loved the song so much that he left it “playing in a loop the whole night” and it was “impossible to stop listening”.
Bachchan had stated that the video was edited by his granddaughter Navya Naveli and he loved it.
