Zurich Buddhist Vihara Kathina ceremony on October 30th & 31st, 2021
According to Buddhist tradition, after the rainy season, the Kathina robes are given to the monks to honor them for their good deeds. During the time when Gotama Buddha lived, the local three-month rainy season was used by the monks and nuns for joint contemplation and meditation, as well as for contemplative conversations and for exchanging opinions. Nowadays, for the Kathina ceremony, not only Kathina robes are given to the monks, but also things, food and donations are received that serve to preserve the Buddhist Vihara. Generosity is extolled in Buddhism as a fundamental virtue that creates good, wholesome karma and leads to a happy life.
