Indian consul general, Jaffna mayor jointly inaugurate event

COLOMBO: As part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a part of India Corner at the iconic Jaffna Public Library was dedicated on Monday morning (October 25, 2021) to portraits of Unsung Heroes who contributed to the Indian independence movement.

The exposition was jointly inaugurated by Consul General Raakesh Natraj and Mayor of Jaffna V. Manivannan. consulate officials, the Chief Librarian, officials and patrons of the Library attended the event.

The event was celebrated following COVID-19 guidelines.

The India Corner houses the bust of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam along with 50,000 books donated by the Consulate General of India, Jaffna now also features the gallery featuring India’s freedom fighters.

The space has come to signify India’s freedom struggle, the progress of the nation since as well as the close and historic ties between India and Sri Lanka.
