PM opens Geethanjali Amarasuriya Memorial Centenary Library at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo
COLOMBO: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Geethanjali Amarasuriya Memorial Visakha Centenary Library, a four storied building with modern facilities.
The four storied building has an area of nearly 15,000 square feet and has a fully technically equipped conference room.
Visakha Vidyalaya’s School Development Society and the Ministry of Education have jointly constructed this new library with a financial contribution of Rs. 96.5 million overcoming the difficulties encountered during Covid-19 pandemic period.
Mrs. Sandamali Aviruppola, Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya along with Visakha daughters welcomed the distinguished guests including the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister unveiled a plaque commemorating the opening of the new library and inaugurated the library by symbolizing the lending of the first book to a Visakha daughter.
The Principal of Visakha Vidyalaya presented a souvenir to the prime minister.
Prof. G. L. Peiris- Foreign Minister, Mrs. G.L. Peiris, Mr. Kithsiri Liyanagamage-National Schools Director, the Deputy Principals of Visakha Vidyalaya, academic and non-academic staff, Visakha daughters and their parents and officials of the School’s Development Society were also present at the occasion.
