Seven more die of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: The Director-General of Health Services has confirmed 07 more coronavirus-related deaths for Jan. 14, increasing the death toll in the country due to the virus pandemic to 15,197.

According to the official figures released by the Government Information Department, the deaths reported on Saturday include 06 males and 01 female.

One of the patients is between the ages of 30-59 years.

The remaining six are in the age group of 60 years.

The daily count of COVID-19 cases recorded in Sri Lanka moved to 661 on Saturday, the Health Ministry said.

According to the Information Department, the newly-detected cases include four individuals who recently arrived on the island.

The latest development has brought the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in the country so far to 595,657.

As many as 568,049 recoveries have been confirmed in Sri Lanka since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 12,400 active cases in total are currently under medical care and the death toll stands at 15,197, official figures showed.
