Tamil celebrity Khushbu Sundar: ‘India needs leadership of Modi’
Reports have emerged in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu that popular actor-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar is likely to join India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
She was with the Congress for the past six years.
The Congress party said that Khushbu Sundar has been dropped as AICC spokesperson, according to reports.
@Sunnewstamil reported on Monday that she had reached New Delhi’s BJP office.
Political journalist Sivapriyan @sivaetb tweeted on Monday: “#KhushbuSundar, who quit#Congress, at the #BJP headquarters in New Delhi. She will join the party in the presence of #TamilNadu #BJP President L Murugan and National General Secretary C T Ravi.”
A document cited as her resignation letter to the Congress leader was being circulated on social media on Monday.
“Congress spokesperson Khushbu Sundar resigns from the primary membership of the party,” @NDTV and @IndiaToday reported on Monday.
Sivapriyan’s another tweet said: “After joining the #BJP, #KhushbuSundar says she has come to understand over a period of time that the country needs the leadership of #NarendraModi. “I will work like any other party worker to the best of my abilities,” she said. “
