Lata Mangeshkar admitted ‘Ghulam Haider is truly my Godfather’

In an old interview, veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar had declared that Master Ghulam Haider was her Godfather. He gave her a break as playback singer.

Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai after she was diagnosed with Covid-19. As soon as she contracted Covid-19, she was rushed to the hospital on January 8, 2022. Nearly a month after her hospitalisation, today, February 6, Lata Mangeshkar’s health condition worsened and she passed away. For those unaware, the veteran singer contributed to the Indian cinema for over 5 decades. However, the one who gave her a break as playback singer was Master Ghulam Haider.

Master Ghulam Haider was a well-known music composer who worked in both the Indian and Pakistani film industries after independence. He was also known for giving a break to Lata Mangeshkar, a renowned playback singer.

And once, in an interview, Lata Mangeshkar admitted that Ghulam Haider was her Godfather. “Ghulam Haider is truly my Godfather. It was his confidence in me that he fought for me to tuck me into the Hindi Film Industry, which otherwise had rejected me,” she had said.

Not many are aware of the fact that the veteran singer won a Guinness World Record for crooning 50,000 songs in 14 languages. Regarded as the nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar was a legend who was loved by millions of people. Her contribution to Indian cinema is incredible and her legacy will live on.
