‘We stand with the people of Iran at time of this tragedy’
Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Ali Sabry said he was “deeply shocked by the passing away of Iran’s President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister H. Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.”
The minister said, “I recall the many visits and bilateral meetings between our nations and President Raisi’s recent visit to Sri Lanka last month.
“My heartfelt condolences to their families. Sri Lanka stands with the people of Iran at this difficult time,” he said.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise” of Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
“My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran,” Modi posted on social media platform X. “India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”
India’s foreign minister, S. Jaishankar, also posted on X that he was “deeply shocked to hear of the passing away” of Raisi and his counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
“Our condolences to their families,” he said.
“We stand with the people of Iran at the time of this tragedy.”
