CG meets leaders of Jaffna Fishermen’s Federation
Consul General Shri Sai Murali met with leaders from the fishermen community in Jaffna.
The participants in the meeting included S. Punithaprakash, President of the Jaffna District Fishermen Association; Chelladurai Narkunam, President of the Jaffna District Fishermen Association and General Secretary of the Jaffna District Rural Fishermen Federation; Anran Selvarasa, Secretary of the Jaffna District Rural Fishermen Federation; Selvarasa Sivagnaraja, Treasurer of both the Jaffna District Fishermen Association and Jaffna District Rural Fishermen Federation; Anthonypillai Francis Ratnakumar, Vice President of the Jaffna District Fishermen Association; and Gunaratnam Gunarajan, a member of the fishermen association.
During the meeting, the fishermen expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its support during the economic crisis faced by the community
They raised concerns about the ongoing issues affecting fishermen in the Northern Province (NP) and appealed to the Consul General for assistance in alleviating their hardships.
The Consul General highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Indian government to address these issues and assured continued support and cooperation to resolve the challenges faced by the fishermen community
The Consul General also stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation in addressing shared concerns and improving the livelihoods of fishermen in the region.
