COVID-19: New Zealand reports first death in over three months

New Zealand reported its first death from the coronavirus in more than three months on Friday, according to The Associated Press.

The death of a man in his 50s at Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital on Friday afternoon takes New Zealand’s death toll from the virus to 23, with the most recent previous fatality on May 24.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said New Zealand would keep its current coronavirus restrictions until at least mid-September.

Health authorities said the man was being treated for the virus following a small outbreak in the city that began last month.

The man was reportedly the youngest to die from Covid-19 in New Zealand.
