TULF’s dynamic approach inspires the youth

Sri Lanka Election: The Rising Sun emerges with renewed vigor

A significant milestone is about to be achieved within the Tamil community as Sri Lanka holds crucial parliamentary elections on Nov. 14.

For the first time in Sri Lankan political history, a Tamil nationalist party has presented candidates across five electoral districts, including the hill country, extending its reach beyond the traditional Tamil homelands of the Northern and Eastern provinces.

The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), guided by its General Secretary, Mr. V. Aanandasangari, has emerged in the political landscape with a strong representation of young men and women.

In a recent statement to the media, the party’s legal advisor and spokesperson, Bawaatharani Raajasingam, said:

“TULF is a coalition dedicated to the welfare of the Tamil-speaking populace, drawing inspiration from the selfless contributions of leaders such as Mr. S.J.V. Chelvanaayakam, G.G. Ponnambalam, and Saumiyamoorthy Thondaman.

“Additionally, Mr. Ashraff has joined this movement on behalf of the Islamic Tamils, advocating for the rights of minority communities.

“During the ethnic riots of 1983, the leaders of TULF demonstrated considerable sacrifices, forfeiting their properties.

“They opposed the Sixth Amendment, which promoted a unitary state, even resigning from their parliamentary positions.

“This legacy of sacrifice remains largely unrecognized by today’s youth.

“Currently, this historical commitment is being revitalized.

“In Tamil-speaking regions such as Jaffna, Vanni, Batticaloa, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, candidates dedicated to serving the Tamil-speaking population are contesting in the forthcoming general election under the TULF banner.

“At this pivotal juncture, when the Tamil community faces fragmentation and requires unity, we reintroduce our symbol of collective strength — the Rising Sun.

“This resurgence is designed to address contemporary challenges and engage the new generation. Leaders who have previously followed divergent political trajectories have united to form a cohesive front.

“We seek the mandate of the people to represent the voices of both the Tamil and Muslim communities residing in the North, East, and Hill Country within Parliament.

“The Rising Sun shall emerge with renewed vigor to combat the pervasive issues of poverty, corruption, violence against women, and drug abuse that afflict our community,” said Bawaatharani Raajasingam.
