A-9 road to Jaffna reopens amid rain misery

The A-9 main road to Jaffna, which was previously closed at Omanthai due to flooding, has now been reopened for traffic, according to the police.

The road was closed yesterday as floodwaters inundated the area near Nochchimoddai Bridge and Omanthai Town, within the Omanthai Police Division.

However, with the floodwaters receding, the police have confirmed that normal traffic movement on the A-9 road has resumed.

Nearly 300,000 people in Sri Lanka have been forced to flee after their homes were flooded.

The government has asked the army to help in relief operations.
