Jaffna MP Ramanathan Archchuna Arrested Over Police Obstruction Case (Video)

Jaffna District Independent MP Ramanathan Archchuna was arrested this afternoon (29) by a special police team in Jaffna for allegedly obstructing police officers’ duties in Anuradhapura.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga confirmed that the MP will be presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court.

The incident in question occurred on January 20 in the Rambewa area of Anuradhapura, where the MP allegedly obstructed traffic police officers. Following an investigation, Anuradhapura Police submitted their findings to the court.

On January 22, the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court postponed the case due to inconsistencies in suspect identification, rescheduling the hearing for February 3.

Reports indicate that a tense exchange took place when MP Archchuna was stopped by traffic police while en route to a parliamentary session. Officers had halted his vehicle for allegedly using ‘VIP lights’ and driving in a manner that hindered other motorists.
